Bio

Lucía Feito Allonca’s work bridges law, global health, and mental health advocacy, supported by a network that spans five continents. As a lawyer she specializes in patients’ rights and the advancement of people-centred care to achieve Universal Health Coverage (UHC). Living with type 1 diabetes for over three decades, she combines her legal expertise and background in psychology with personal experience to advocate for holistic, inclusive health policies.

She has served as a consultant for the World Health Organization (WHO), co-creating webinars and moderating sessions for international NGOs, and is listed on the WHO roster for stakeholder convenings related to diabetes. As a Commissioner for The Lancet Global Health Commission on People-Centred Care for Universal Health Coverage, convened by Harvard Medical School, she contributes to shaping global health systems that prioritise lived experience and equity.

Lucía is a member of the Our Views, Our Voices Global Advisory Committee and the Global Week for Action on NCDs Advisory Group. At the European level, she is a lived experience expert in projects such as HEU-EFS, EDiHTA, and Invest4Health, which focus on health technology assessment and health system improvement. An experienced international speaker, she has presented at major events including the International Diabetes Federation World Congress, the Global NCD Alliance Forum, and United Nations multi-stakeholder hearings on NCDs and mental health.

Lucía’s leadership is grounded in social justice, diversity, and equity, enriched by her multicultural background, her identity as a member of the LGBTIQ+ community, and her dual nationality — Spanish by birth and Argentine through long-term residence. Through her multidisciplinary expertise and unwavering commitment, Lucía continues to inspire collaborative action for equitable, people-centred health systems worldwide.

Power shifts radically when people and communities are placed where they belong — at the heart of care, actively shaping health systems and decisions, rather than merely being tokenistically present.
