Our Views, Our Voices is an initiative of the NCD Alliance and people living with NCDs, which seeks to put people first in the NCD response. The initiative aspires to break down stigma and discrimination, equipping people living with NCDs with the skills, knowledge, and opportunities to be leaders and active players in the response to these diseases and in growing the NCD movement.
In 2022, the Our Views, Our Voices initiative will host its second virtual training that will bring together people living with NCDs from across the world, who are passionate about improving NCD prevention and control in their country and who have access to networks and communities of others living with NCDs.
The Our Views, Our Voices virtual training objectives are as follows:
- To become familiar with the global NCDs landscape
- To develop communication skills leveraging lived experiences/personal stories to build a public narrative and call for action on NCDs
- To develop advocacy skills to mobilise communities and call for change
- To increase confidence in being a spokesperson and advocate for NCD prevention and control at all levels
- To increase knowledge on mechanisms of meaningful involvement of people living with NCDs across different sectors and how it can be operationalised through the Global Charter on meaningful involvement of people living with NCDs as an advocacy tool
- To develop an action plan to take forward the Advocacy Agenda of People Living with NCDs and take advantage of relevant milestone advocacy opportunities
The Our Views Our Voices virtual training programme will consist of:
- A pre-training evaluation (online survey)
- A 4 week online training combining 5 live sessions, 3 distance learning modules (self-study), 3 course projects and a final quiz
- A post-training evaluation (online survey)
- A post training check-in after 6 months for participants to share with NCDA any areas of improvement, next steps on their advocacy journey (optional)
