The Our Views, Our Voices initiative was launched in 2017 by the NCD Alliance together with people living with NCDs. It supports and enables people living with NCDs to share their lived experiences and perspectives in order to take action, drive change on NCDs and combat stigma and discrimination.
“The Our Views, Our Voices digital platform, possible thanks to NCD Alliance’s partnership with Access Accelerated, builds on the success of the initiative’s first three years. It will act as a space to consolidate the voices, experiences and expertise of people living with NCDs and support advocacy promoting their key role in the NCD response”, said Katie Dain, CEO of NCD Alliance.
The platform, also available in French and Spanish, features insights from various consultations with people living with NCDs, which can be leveraged to inform NCD policy and practice. It also offers various tools and resources for advocacy and to promote meaningful involvement of people living with NCDs, including the Advocacy Agenda of People Living with NCDs. Since its publication in 2017, the global Advocacy Agenda has shaped the creation of national advocacy agendas highlighting the local realities and priorities of people living with NCDs.
NCD Diaries
Other resources found on the platform include reports, videos and photos. As a new focus within the Our Views, Our Voices initiative, the platform also launches NCD Diaries, a living collection of the daily experiences and recommendations created by people living with NCDs. Experiences will be presented in written, visual, or audio formats, and a practical guide is available to help Diarists create impactful narratives. The first call for Diarists is expected in the beginning of 2021. The NCD Diaries project is possible thanks to NCD Alliance’s partnership with The Leona M. and Harry B. Helmsley Charitable Trust.
“Through the Our Views, Our Voices initiative and platform, we are aiming to create a culture of meaningful involvement of people living with NCDs in the NCD response. As our experiences of living with NCDs are amplified via the platform and through projects like the NCD Diaries, we hope that more people will speak up to drive the change that meet the needs of people living with NCDs everywhere,” said Diana Gittens, Our Views, Our Voices Global Advisory Committee member, Guyana.
